For my 100th review on Yelp, I thought I should pick a place completely awesome that I can go to often because it is near where I live ... inotherwords a top-notch local hangout. With those thoughts in mind then I can only be thinking of the good old Cafe Rüdigerhof. This is one of the best chill spots in Vienna .... well actually maybe in all of Central Europe. When you think of Vienna ... and being in a cool-looking place with atmosphere .... and talking with friends ... and enjoying some tasty food and a good beer or wine ...just totally chilling - the Rüdigerhof is made to order.
The Rüdigerhof has both an inviting interior and a super Schanigarten for warmer days & nights. The building it is located in is a Jugendstil landmark by the architect Oskar Marmorek. And then there's the food - a selection of tasty dishes from the classic Viennese Cookbook at very reasonable prices. I especially love to go there in the winter and get a warming Gulasch soup.
There are rooms for smokers and non-smokers. The smoking room is the best because everyone stays late in this room and it has more of a buzz. It just feels more like a Viennese café. The non-smoking room is not bad - it's just smaller and not as cool.
Anyway, I'm lucky that Café Rüdigerhof is so close to where I live. Everyone should have such a place in their neighborhood!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Marc S.Viena, Austria983062129 jun 2016Reseña actualizada
Cafe Rudigerhof is one of the few places in Vienna that actually is in the city centre and has a lovely beer garden surrounded by lush green. Its definitely popular so on a hot day, you will probably not find a seat. However, just hang about and you might be lucky to grab one. Naturally you can reserve and i would do that if you are a group of friends.
The kitchen is simple Austrian food: schnitzel, sausages, french fries, etc. There is plenty of delicious cold beer (budweiser & gösser) while decent white wine for spritzers.
The staff is nice and they could seem rough at first but thats probably because they are literally running around tending to at least 20-30 tables. And all these tables are asking for refills and more toasts, french fries or something.
I enjoy the ambiance of the beer garden and find it a gem of a place to hang out with friends. Prost!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 011 sept 2011Reseña anteriorNice beer garden with big trees giving it a lush green atmosphere.

we tried earlier in the day to go to a restaurant for lunch (found them on yelp) and they were shut down for holiday! so we headed here for dinner..and from street level it looks abandoned and closed but then you go around the corner end up the stairs and see the entrance, thank god! wander in and sit wherever on the huge terrace. we got schnitzel and cordon blue (bleu? hmm..don't remember) and we were fully fully stuffed. service is on par with the rest of vienna, and our waiter was actually really nice! while it was not our first choice, it was a perfectly pleasant, reasonably priced dinner.

Was there for dinner last night, and I have to say that I had never noticed this location before, but having heard good things we thought we would check it out!
The service is good, almost typically Viennese (grumpy, arrogant) but our waiter had a nice touch of humour about him which was nice.
After ordering our drinks, the waiter brought them quickly, although the garden was full!
We ordered food and it was there pretty quickly also.
There is nothing special about the food I have to say, but as the prices are very reasonable, one cannot complain and is perfectly acceptable!
The interior of the Cafe is very old style Viennese and looks great!
As a student hangout I could see this place being very popular, and I have heard that some of Viennas lesser prominant people go there, always a good sign!
So if you live around Pilgrimgasse definitely worth a look in, you won't be dissapointed in my opinion!! :-) BIG THUMBS UP!!!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Maarten S.Viena, Austria01215 oct 2018
It's a beautiful building, with a great outside area, but that's mostly it. The place is understaffed, the coffee isn't great, and the cake we ordered was a day old at least. It's great if you want to just drink beers with friends in a cool spot, but if you're not concerned with being cool and you just want good coffee and cake, go somewhere else.

It's in a great Jugendstihl building designed by Oskar Marmorek in 1902. The interior has some neat fixtures. It's nice and homey, like a comfortable rumpus room. It seems like a place with lots of regulars. It's definitely nicer (more comfy) than the touristy places downtown. I didn't try the food, but the melange is great.
