A fantastic modern take on Indian food. Chicken liver starter was fantastic. Lamb shank was really full of flavour and tender. The wine list is good and reasonably priced. The ambience is quite formal with wood panelling all around. The staff were courteous and knowledgeable.

I've just been to this restaurant tonight and it was fantastic. The menu is suited to a high end restaurant in London and the food itself was perfectly cooked and tasted superb. It says on the website that its style is French-Asian, the food has a very delicate Indian flavour and is French in style.
An absolute must for anyone looking for a meal in St Albans. It's a bit pricey, cost us £70 for 2 courses and just one glass of wine for hubby. I'd rather save up and go less often than go somewhere less interesting.
I will definitely be back!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Natasha B.Saint Albans, Reino Unido46832610 dic 2014Primera reseña
You will not be disappointed. Chez Mumtaj expertly blend French and Indian cuisine with some influence from Eastern Asia too. So many of the dishes sounded good that it was hard to limit myself to three courses! It is more expensive than some other restaurants in the area but I think it reflects the quality of the food. I return here for many special occasions.

Just got back after promising my wife we would try when it opened 2 years ago. Well, wish we had gone before! The restaurant looks amazing and is spotless. The bathrooms look like they have just been fitted.
Staff are very friendly and you aren't left waiting for anything.
The food- simply amazing! You can't compere to just Indian cuisine,it is so full of surprises with unusual combinations of flavours. The side dishes are a good size and complement the main perfectly.
Yes its dearer than your normal Indian restaurent but well worth putting a bit extra aside for it. Chez Mumtaj is worthy of the West EndHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
