Meh. Let's just say I wasn't thrilled to be staying in my first hostel...in general.

That makes me sound kind of like a snob, yeah, I get it. I'm not nearly as cool as everyone who backpacked around Europe at 19. But let's just say I'm a little past the point in life where crashing on a friend's couch for the night is a viable option.

That's what I would compare HI Munich Park Hostel to...crashing on a friend's (not-so-cuddly) couch. It does the trick for a night's sleep, but it's clearly not like being in your own bed, and you might wake up with a sore neck and a hangover.

Luckily enough, everyone in my 6-lady room was fairly pleasant (well, creepy girl dormer aside...) and turned off the lights for the sleeping crashers at a reasonable hour. Toilet and in-room shower stall was pretty clean, although no place to put the soap while in the shower. Boo. Mattress was, as aforementioned, not that awesome, and I had to pluck someone else's hairs off of it before I made it with clean sheets. Ehhh...well, before I freaked out completely, I had to remind myself of the circumstances. ::shiver::

Breakfast is free, and it's not that great. Meat, cheese, hard rolls, and tiny tubes of liverwurst, bland apple juice. Again, fine for the high school crowd.

2 Euros for a towel. If your towel never dries, or you want another one, be ready to shell out another 2 Euros.

Other (positive) points for: being in a good location. Thalkirchen isn't in the middle of all-things-touristy, and it's a really easy walk to the train station, which snaps you into the Altstadt area within 10 minutes. Their last-minute availability (which is why I ended up staying here) was helpful as well, and their rates aren't terrible for what you get. All staff members that I had interactions with were friendly in both German and English.

Will I be back? Not if I can help it. Will I recommend it to 19 year-old kids backpacking around Europe in the future? You betcha.
