i visited this pub while on my first trip to London. Great place to hang out. Bartender Tony was very friendly and poured a great drink. He made us feel welcome

Arrived too early to gain entrance to The Sondheim then you have the perfect chance to visit The Duke of Wellington just around the corner. Great choice of beers with friendly service. Plenty of seating inside and outside. Well worth a visit if you are gay and well worth a visit if you are hetero, it's a great pub.

The first time I went to the Duke of Wellington was in Aug 2017. Pretty cool bar where you can be whatever you want, and in whatever disposition. There are three levels, so definitely go upstairs if you want to have a private conversation. You could stay down and socialize or people watch too. Everyone is very friendly. I always go here when I'm in London, and I always meet someone interesting, or have good conversations.
The drinks are standard and there some good happy hour prices. There are other bars in Soho too, but this one really made me feel at home and very comfortable.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 9 jul 2016
My favorite gay pub in London! I love coming here, especially after work when it's crowded and busy with the locals. Bar staff are always very friendly and apparently some nights they have good pint specials. At regular times, I don't find it that expensive for this area of town.
Loved by a variety of men, the Duke of Wellington is truly my favorite place to grab a pint.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 27 mar 2012
Just for the music, this place gets four stars. In one fifteen minute span, I heard (and saw on the video screen) Wham, Communards, Bananarama, Miami Sound Machine, Kim Wilde and old school Kylie Minogue (the video was "I Should be so Lucky").
Plus, the beers are cheap (no fancy beers, had Grolsch, Carling, Kronenburg, Tetley's and several other mass market beers that were fine, but nothing great)
Clean place, friendly crowd...this is a great place to stop for a beer or four.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Mike C.Salt Lake City, Estados Unidos16019219129 jun 2018
I'm so mad that the gay pubs in the US aren't as easygoing and inviting as the Duke of Wellington. I mean, first of all let's start with the name, how beautiful, fun, and cheeky; which basically describes us gays. You walk in and are greeted by the angelic voices of Madonna, Arianna, Beyonce, and Britney through the speakers. Your hips start moving, you make eye contact with the cute bartender and lock eyes. That's right I'm thirsty....for a drink.
Let's talk about the drinks, it's almost like they know what I was wanting. From low carb options, to the sugary-est pretty cocktail, there's a drink for every one! It's clean, the staff are very attentive, attractive, and so were the flocks of people coming in and out. It's a very accepting, friendly, and enjoyable atmosphere. I really can't explain it any further than, strap on some heels, put on your fiercest wig, and sashay your way over this wonderfully gay bar. I love you all!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 1 - 1368131247002 abr 2015
I don't go to gay bars often, but I do enjoy visiting once in a while when I'm traveling. My friend and I found this place right away by the colorful rainbow flag hanging outside. (An obvious sign of a gay establishment!) We came here during the weekday on a lovely afternoon and had a great time. Drink specials were a good value. The young bartender was surprised that I tipped him well, but then again I'm pretty generous. lol

The Duke of Wellington sprang up from the ashes of an old Rat & Parrot pub and, whilst it is an independent bar, it still has some of the trappings of a traditional chain pub.
With two bars on two floors and its brilliant sighting between the popular Rupert Street and Compton Street, the bar can be very crowded. It attracts an older, down to earth crowd, maybe not as classy as other local bars but okay for those who want a simple pint without the over-styled pretension of some of Soho. As such expect bears and low-maintenance men and a casual after-works crowd.
The bar doesn't really do much for me, it has to be said, being a bit too old-fashioned but visitors should pop in and have a gander as it may be to their liking.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
