Gare de Montpellier Saint-Roch

Other than the nice modern architecture, there was nothing good about this train station. Some of the charging ports did not work, this station closes for a few hours during the night (when many other big or major train stations stay open 24 hours), the bathroom does not open until 7am even though the train station opens at 4:30am, and there is not really much service.

Transferred trains in this sparkling new station. Staff excellent. Beautiful design. Wish Americans had a train system like the EU!

This train station is located in the heart of the city. Fast train TGV takes you to other part of France, Brussel and Barcelona. I took the train to Lille near German border. The trip just under 5 hours. You can bring food and eat in the train, or you can buy it in the train too. The train are clean and people tend to read, so it's quiet.

You have to pay 50 cents to be able to use restrooms. Shame on this.

For a smaller city, it has a fairly large station. Plenty of places inside to grab a quick bite or coffee. Bathrooms normally have a typical European 50 cent charge to use but the time I was there, they had a hiatus on it whatever the reason so the cost was free.

Nice is a much larger city but the station needs to add more places to eat and sit among other things. The Montpellier tram stop at the train station is only a couple hundred feet way form the station entrance. There are 4 lines which is far more than Nice (only 1 line) and all of them stop at different points near the station.

I don't remember if there was a McDonald's inside but there's a McDonalds across the street from the station.

Overall, I recommend you don't overlook the size and options of the station if you have the impression that Montpellier is a small city.
