This is our third time to see a show here. While seeing Hamnet, a play with lots of quiet moments, we could hear the underground trains. We didn't notice this during our first two visits, which were both for musicals.
Overall, we like this theatre. There are no center aisles, which is fairly common here in London.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Robert W.Londres, Reino Unido808222131522 jul 2015
I'm pleased to be reviewing the theatre rather than the show, otherwise it would have got 2 fewer stars!
Built in the late 19th century. The Garrick Theatre is situated on Charing Cross Road, just south of Leicester Square Underground station. The theatre is one of the smaller West End venues, housing 718 patrons over three levels. Having been to a few West End theatres that were built at the same time or earlier than the Garrick, the first thing that struck me, was how tired the theatre looks. As you walk into the foyer the first impression, is that a lick of paint is required. In fact a wholesale refurbishment.
Working my way to my seat in the stalls, was like going through a maze of corridors, past bars and communial areas. The auditorium itself is one that has a circle which overhangs quite a bit of the stalls. This means that posts are required to support it, which means that some seats behind the posts could have a restricted view. In fact the production I saw had TV images projected from the top of the stage, which meant you were unlikely to see them if you were in and rome behind row N.
The theatre does have plenty of gents toilet facilities (can't talk for the ladies). Again a warren of up and down stairs and corridors. Again they too could do with a refit.
This theatre is one of my least favourite in the West End, but then again us Londoners are blessed to have so many good ones as well.Helpful 8Thanks 0Love this 8Oh no 0 - Esme H.Princeton, Estados Unidos8761276203615 jul 2017
The positive thing about the Garrick theater was the fact that I am hilarious and I can't get over it I actually always have a fashion faux pas when I go to Europe unfortunately when I came here to see Chicago which I hated the show in New York I actually hated it in London as well
Unfortunately the limousine driver can only get me so far to the theater and I had to get out and walk in 7 inch high heels dressed up to the nines in a dress and everyone was looking at me like I was most definitely a Vegas girl
I was so overdressed I was completely embarrassed people were there for this matinee in flip-flops and shorts and here I am wearing a $500 dress and a $700 pair of shoes
After my horrible shall I bolted back into my limousine and scurried back to my hotel and changed into some more traditional casual clothing but for me that's a little tough
Anyway the theater was absolutely beautiful sea to a comfortable but I was not only because I stuck out like a sore thumb but that has nothing to do with London it has nothing to do with the shower that I hated and it has nothing to do with the theater if provided booze and clean bathrooms and it also had the same charm that Broadway shows have when I do go to Broadway shows which is very often I take care of myself and I always dress up but I think Matt needs are differentHelpful 5Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Lili H.Palo Alto, Estados Unidos11015 dic 2018
Small venue with big performers! Don Quixote was magnificent. Super entertaining with humor and wit.
I sat in the Stalls in row B and it's a terrific view of the stage; just too bad I'm short and a tall, wide-shouldered gent sat in front of me because the seats do not ascend so I ended up with a slightly obstructed view despite buying a great seat. If in London again, will return for another performance.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Claire W.Cincinnati, Estados Unidos438663115 feb 2015
I came to this theatre to see the Scottsboro Boys before the show closed for good. We were seated in the third row and the experience was extremely memorable! I enjoyed how the theatre was smaller than other ones I've been to, which made for a more intimate setting, and perfect for a show where the actors interact with the audience a bit.
The architecture was absolutely stunning and the dome at the top of the theatre really caught my eye. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wishes to see any sort of show here!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Claire L.Londres, Reino Unido1740025630 nov 2008
The Garrick Theatre is an absoloutely gorgeous theatre right at the start of London's slew of west end theatres and a few minutes walk from Trafalgar Square.
The theatre's interior really reminds me of the theatres of old. Beautiful, ornate seating and surroundings are covered in a plethora of gold and heavy red velvet, beautiful.
The theatre is really huge and well placed seating means everyone gets to hear and see what's going on, on stage. Their program of events includes everything from performing arts to comedy, a real variety of arts performances.
If you're a theatre / arts buff, you must pay this beautiful venue a visit.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Thomas M.Offenbach am Main, Alemania29578506521 ago 2018
Garrick Theatre is one of the most popular historic venues in central London, close to Trafalgar Square and the National Gallery. Like many Victorian era theatres, it is on the small side, so if you want to make a play or musical for a specific show you should reserve tickets well in advance. Its fairly intimate atmosphere guarantees that you will get a good view of the stage from most seats, unless you booked a seat behind one of the columns. Over the years I have attended several shows there, the latest being Mel Brooks' Young Frankenstein. The sound from the speakers is very direct and loud, so mind that if you choose a seat in the front stalls area. The staff are usually friendly, and, as always, photography during the show is not allowed. The bar area is fairly spacious, but the drinks prices may make your eyes bleed. The seats are not the most comfortable, but unlike at some other historic venues, there's enough legroom between the rows! In the stalls, the rows ascend just a little, so if you happen to be sitting behind a very tall person, there goes your view. Toilet facilities are small indeed, and rather "historic", too.

We went to see Twelve Angry Men (Which was stunningly good) but the actual seats (O16 & 17) were so uncomfortable that they detracted from the amazing play. I had to keep bobbing my head around to see over the people in front as the tiering is non existent and although I'm only 5' 5", I couldn't find a position to sit in without my knees touching the seat in front!
Also, bars in the theatre are cash only - a fact that they helpfully don't tell you until you go to pay...!Helpful 9Thanks 0Love this 7Oh no 0 - Wayne H.Londres, Reino Unido39667647514 nov 2011
Very intimate venue. A bit aged but not at all decrepit.
Caught Chicago here last week, co-starred by America Ferrera. There isn't much leg room in the aisleways so tall people won't find their seating very comfortable. Accountics is acceptable though I can only speak for rows D and forward.
The bar in the lobby accepts cash only.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Josy A.Vancouver, Canadá341810247313 jul 2012
THERE WAS A MOOOOOOUSE!
Actually... there were at least two mice (dark grey and slightly lighter brown), and one of them seemed really keen to come over and nibble on my shoe! I spent the second half of Chicago with my eyes peeled so I could see when the sneaky critter and stamp to scare it away before he came back over to my seat. Eep!
I did tell the staff...but it looks like other yelpers have complained about this before to no avail. Not cool Garrick Theatre, not cool.
*** If you don't mind sharing a theatre with little critters, Chicago was brilliant!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
