This is a great place for foreigners looking for a good hearty German meal. The beers here are good and the food is even better. You will not be disappointed unless your sick of eating German food on your trip. We ordered the bamberg skillet for two, creamy potato soup, and got two Schlenkerla "Smokey" beers that are rich in flavor but not heavy feeling like a stout or other dark beers.

The staff are friendly and mostly can speak English. There are English menus.

Enjoyable meal on a beautiful day to people watch. Outside dining was perfect. Food was tasty and generous portions. Waiter spoke English but helped me with my German.

Came here on a weekday evening, busy night, sat outside, got the pork shoulder which is local to Bamberg. Food took a bit to come out but not too bad. Pork was flavorful, very soft. The skin was crispy, really enjoyed it. Potato dumpling was tasty as well as the pureed cabbage, both of which I've never had before. Quite a lot of food, expensive though as my plate was about €18. Delicious though, would recommend!

Food was good. I have had better Sauerbraten, but it was nice to find somewhere that had it. The food seemed a little foreshadowed. My main issue was the owner. (At least it seemed to be). The waitress was very attentive and helpful, and the owner just seemed to have a chip on his shoulder. As an example, the waitress was carrying some drinks. The owner, not paying attention ran into her, causing her to drop all her drinks. He didn't even apologize or help her clean up, he just walked away and left her to clean up his mess. He also was very particular about the fabric he had on the seats, and when my kids had it fall off the chair, he insisted in making them stand up while he put it back on the chair. It was just awkward. I know this is Germany and not the US, but being courteous is universal IMO.

That said, the food was ok as stated above, I just don't think I would go back for it.

The food here is outstanding. We got the Bamberg special for 2 and it was generous and delicious. Local ingredients and recipes at their peak. Works beautifully with the local smoke bier if you like that. It is in the old city so the ambience is right on also. I only took a photo or the pork knuckle but their was pork shoulder too. The crispy bits on both were heavenly. The vegetable was made from Savoy cabbage but was unlike anything we have had before. It almost was like a mix of creamed spinach and mashed potatoes or turnips yet it was cabbage. Friendly servers. I highly recommend it.

First time trying a smoked bacon beer and it was delicious! Definitely a dark beer but it's not heavy or very bitter. The food here is traditional German and will leave you feeling stuffed! The host and waitresses are friendly and they speak English! Also, have English menus. It's a must for Bamberg only downfall is there's too much foam in the beer due to bad pouring.

Had two beers (both great), and shared the "Bamberg Special" with my wife. It was EXCELLENT! Bratwurst, two kinds of pork, sauerkraut, potatoes and bacon, and even a couple dumplings. It said it was for 2 people, but it could easily serve 6.

All items were fantastic. Unfortunately, when I was there, they didn't accept credit cards, which meant I had to hunt down an ATM. Not a big deal, but be warned if you're traveling and not a local.

This was one of the best meals my wife and I had on the trip, though. Highly recommended!

Wonderful little place with fantastic service and great food! They have an extensive menu, they offer a bunch of seasonal dishes (the asparagus is delicious!) and they have English menus for tourists. Great place!!

Just had dinner there, food was very good my roast pork was very tender with crusty top. The sauce was a bit on the liquid side different from the one that they do in Munich but nonetheless good. We were there we my mother and they were very nice in accommodating her Italian tastebuds preparing for her something that was not on the menu.

All in all a very nice dinner with friendly service.
