After visiting Octoberfest grounds and shopped a bit on our last day in Munich we stumbled upon this restaurant for lunch.
What a great surprise- they have seating in front f the restaurant, inside and a cute beer garden courtyard in the back.
The staff was very friendly an spike good English translated the menu special and recommended light beer for us.
We had the veal Bavarian sausages for appetizers with typical sweets stars and then Caesar salad with grilled chicken- everything was fresh and tasty.
I would definitely recommend for lunch option at minimum.
Nice hospitality treatment after the Residence Museum where the staff was anti American sadly.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Heather L.Swanley, Londres, Reino Unido224103127025 oct 2016
Really if I could give the place 3.5 stars I would, but I rounded up because overall it was a nice experience. We didn't mean to eat here, but the other two restaurants that we popped into were completely booked with one saying they could give us a table at 10 p.m. On a Friday night they had a couple tables available and we sat at one of the tables across from the bar. It was a bit quieter than some of the other restaurants, but I kind of liked that and so did Mr. Snarky because we can have a conversation without screaming.
A lot of people have mentioned the service, but it was on par for Munich...actually it was a bit better than some of the other places we went to where the staff really couldn't be bothered. The menu included some classic German food, but also seemed to have a few more upmarket dishes. It isn't an extensive menu, but there were a few things that really took our fancy. I ended up going with the schnitzel while Mr. Snarky went with the roast pork. I also decided to have some beer, and of course the bartender assumed Mr. Snarky had ordered it... lame.
As I was looking at the menus on the table, I realised that it is a Brandy Bar. They have an extensive brandy menu, so if that is your thing, then you must stop in. They do have tables outside across the walk way and it is probably quite nice in the summer. My schnitzel was nice, but nothing special. I did like that it was served with three different types of salads rather than more French Fries, but if you aren't a fan of their salads, then you may not enjoy this. Mr. Snarky did not like the sauce the roast pork was in as he found it quite sour and overpowering to everything else on the plate. I had a taste and didn't particularly like the sauce, but the roast pork was really nice and tender.
Our waitress asked if we wanted some schnapps and didn't quite understand how Mr. Snarky didn't want to partake, but I took her up on it. Not actually sure what type of schnapps it was, but I was definitely warm after drinking it. When she came back to settle the bill, she kept saying, "I like you together." She had checked on us a couple of times and even though she was a bit abrupt, she at least seemed a bit interested. It was a bit pricey though compared to some of the other restaurants we went to. I'd be happy to go back again and try some of the other dishes on the menu.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Chris H.Communauté-Urbaine-de-Montréal, Canadá9272 oct 2018
My wife and I stopped in for a couple of drinks one evening during a recent visit to Munich. We were charged €3 for a glass of tap water. The waiter told us that this was policy but only during Oktoberfest, which we confirmed with another waiter. I can't rate the food, but the beer and wine were as expected. I've never been charged for tap water and find it very petty to do so at all, but especially at a time when they should be encouraging people to actually drink some water rather than taking advantage of an opportunity. This does make me wonder what else occurs in terms of making a buck in their establishment though...

Yes, you can get traditional food here, but for me, that's just a tourist trap.
Portions are small and expensive. Service was good, but the supervisor was kind of soft-headed.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Orla L.Dublín, Irlanda801722451 oct 2013
The food was actually nice but after the wait of nearly 2 hours we were pretty tanked so I think a slice of toast would have tasted nice. We were first moved to a different table. Then the wait was just incredible. It was Octoberfest but surely they could have planned for the event.
When we asked about our food we were told of all the different tables that were still waiting too- like that was an okay answer! Really?? Then she constantly bitched to her co worker about all the work she had to do in German presuming that we didn't know German. She missed food off our order also.
When we discussed that we would not give a tip-she overheard and said I don't need it anyway.
Aweful service and won't be there again!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Daniela H.Dublín, Irlanda1072053801 oct 2013
I have been visiting the restaurant during Oktoberfest time. I am Munich quite a lot, but that was my first time at Marktwirt. Obviously it was very busy, but given the experience and the standard of the food on that evening, I wouldn't go back there.
My friend and I had to wait 1.5 hours for food, the waitress who was not only rude telling us everyone had to wait, didn't help with the disaster. She rather complained about the amount of work to her coworker and made clear, she is not a customer service person.
My dish missed the Sauerkraut with Speck - her reaction was, no that's like that, there is nothing such as Sauerkraut (but it was mentioned on the menu).
They probably can be a nice place if there is nothing to do, but I suggest people to go around the corner of that restaurant - there are plenty of choices.
Good Service helps also!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Wei G.Múnich, Alemania0225 ago 2016
Overall this is a place to step in, can't expect too much from the service side, but the food is good.
Won't recommend the sirloin because it is obviously over cooked for medium rare, the sausages and Schnitzel on the other side are good to have.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Tony C.Collingswood, Estados Unidos2168315 abr 2016
The owner kept the kitchen open an extra 15 minutes to feed my father and I as he knew we were tired and had no other place to eat. My blood sausage meal was amazing and the Augustiner beer is divine.

The atmosphere in the garden is certainly a pleasure. Serene and relatively quiet and attended to with care. I found the service on point. The menu was varied an d the preparation excellent. My beef was so tender that a knife was not necessary while the noodles were al dente. My companion enjoyed the risotto with prawns, a dish very well received. Enjoy this restaurant.
