For absolutely stunning views of Rome, you must go to Piazzale Garibaldi at the top of the Gianicolo Hill. This tranquil square offers an incredible panoramic view of Rome, and is especially breathtaking at sunset. During the day, families bring their children to play or take a ride on the nearby carousel. The peace is only interrupted by the daily noontime blast of the cannon that commemorates the formation of the Italian Republic. At night, the Piazzale changes into a romantic destination for all. There are snacks and beverages available from street vendors and cafés along the road and in the square.

At the top of the Gianicolo hill, you will find the statue of Giuseppe Garibaldi, the general in charge of Italy's revolutionary troops during the unification efforts of the 1860s and 70s (sort of like the Italian George Washington, only he never got to run the country after he won, since Italy became a unified monarchy). The monument consists of a bronze statue portraying the hero riding a horse, which is on a big marble base; and on each side are engraved allegorical figures of Europe and America and bas-reliefs that commemorate the landing in Marsala, the resistance of Boiada, the defence of Rome, and the group of liberty.

Locals told me to check out this viewpoint where you can see all of Rome. It was a trek to get here biking up the super long and steep hills but it was worth it. I stayed for about an hour to rest and enjoy the view. I agree that it is one of the must see places that is off the tourist beaten path. Views of the city are amazing
