The Bike Fitter

Martin has relocated to Singapore but still responded to my email and helped me out. He suggested these guys while he's out:

1. Curtis Cramblett from Revolutions in Fitness in San Jose.

2. Matt McNamara from Sterling Sports Group in Sunnyvale.

Martin is a cycling enthusiast who maintains a strong presence in his local biking community. His extension into bike fitting (and racing) grows organically from his enthusiasm for all things with 2 wheels and pedals, as evidenced by his numerous bicycles and books on cycling tactics, form, psychology, etc. that he had lying around. Very knowledgeable chap.

He takes all of his fittings very seriously. I get the strong impression that it's a matter of personal and professional pride for him to ensure that a thorough and complete job is done when fitting you to your bike (I was there for 3+ hours). He'll take the time to quiz you on the details of your cycling style, measure you and take your flexibility/mechanics into consideration when adjusting your bike. He's very attentive to all of your needs and preferences (seating, positioning, etc.) and won't send you off until you're comfortable in the saddle with an efficient stroke.

Unlike other fitters or bike shops, Martin's not affiliated with any particular product or company (ie. doesn't receive commission for any product) and will only recommend you replace certain parts to optimize power transfer from legs to wheels. In my case, I found that I needed a shorter stem and he actually followed up my session with an email with multiple links to different stems of varying manufacture in my size. The customer service extends past the close of the session - Impressive!

In short, a fantastic experience. Extremely friendly and judgement-free environment. Martin's a good guy with a good heart. Salt of the earth.

I was recently referred to Martin by a friend. I'm pretty new to cycling so I didn't really understand how much a proper bike fit would make a difference. It's like riding a whole new bike! Martin is incredibly knowledgeable and took the time to explain things along the way. He was able to make the bike more comfortable for a knee injury that has been bothering me for awhile. After I left, he followed by offering to make recommendations for the new handlebars I needed. (mine were too wide).

It was a great experience. My bike is much more comfortable now and learned a lot in the process. I would highly recommend Martin to any cyclist.
